In its second year, the Market Day Poetry Series, hosted by St. Johns Booksellers in conjunction with the St Johns Farmers Market, takes place every
Saturday of the Market, June 5th through September 25th. Series
coordinator dan raphael, who has been arranging poetry readings in
Portland since the late 70’s, finds poets–many of whom are involved in
other reading series–to host individual readings and find two other
co-readers. This provides a broad diversity of readers from Portland’s
rich and multi-styled poetry scene.

Workshop your writing in a constructive, positive environment, with
inspiration and insight from someone who cares! Instructor Ian
Paulston presents an 8-week, roundtable-style workshop for writers.
Writers will read original work and provide copies to the group for
constructive feedback. The workshop meets weekly through October
30th. Cost for the 8-week series is $50. Space is limited, so reserve
your spot soon.
Ian Paulston teaches fiction and memoir writing workshops in PCC's
Continuing Education program. He has an MA in Creative Writing from
Northern Arizona University. Ian is the creator and editor of Write Club USA,
a journal focused on the literary accomplishments of everyday
Portlanders. He remembers the first poem he wrote in second grade,
because the principal made him read it over the school intercom. He's
been writing ever since, and is determined to create a People's
Literature of the United States. Ian lives in St. Johns--maybe you've
seen him walking his two huskies!
