Although I never made it to university, I am an autodidact and have studied at my own leisure and for my own pleasure (oh crap I'm a poet): ancient history, archaeology, comparative religion, eastern philosophy, metaphysics, mythology, and the occult, since I was a mere wriggling tad in the lily pond of childhood. I was born and raised the son of a Unitarian minister and attended Waldorf elementary school for several years. As a teenager I was a member of the infamous and now banned (in certain quarters) church youth group the L.R.Y., at the height of its debaucheries from 1972 to 1974.
My only academic claim to fame, is that my high school refused me a diploma because of overdue library books. Undaunted, I left school sans diploma and never looked back. I have spent much of my life wandering and thinking and looking out at the world, as I stumbled into one sticky wicket after another (have you ever tried removing a well and truly stuck wicket? It's not as easy as you think) and I don't encourage anyone to follow me. But life is long enough and not over yet and I'm probably lucky to be alive, so let's all just take a deep breath and see how it all turns out, shall we?
Where it comes to human (and other) relationships, my philosophy is, "The willingness to give credit where credit is due and the reluctance to place blame, even where such has been earned, is the surest sign of mental health." Yeah, I wrote that. Heh.
All right, so, I have over 16 years in the used book business. Although I am a writer of fiction, I have always been more enamoured of non-fiction than fiction, so it takes a fiction writer of no little talent to impress me. But I am determined to read whatever fiction is assigned me or seizes my eye and then we will see what we will see. And then we shall see, shall we not? Yes. Yes we shall. Nuf said.
